.
‘Liberty Enlightening the World’ is the actual name of the statue and it was gifted to the United States by France. This copper statue was sculpted by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. Today, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous icons of the United States.
Visitors can take a boat ride called the Circle Line ferry starting from the Battery Park to reach the Liberty Island. To reach atop the statue, visitors can climb or take an elevator to the liberty’s crown. The National Park Service conducts guided tours which last for half an hour. Various souvenir shops are to be found here along with a museum in the pedestal which has exhibits on the statue and its history. The New Torch Exhibit displays the original torch which was replaced.
